The middle number is 12, so the median is 12.

If there are two middle numbers, their average is used to find the median.

Mode

The mode is the value that appears most often.

For example:

2, 3, 3, 5, 7

The number 3 appears twice. The other numbers appear once. Therefore, the mode is 3.

These three measures help summarize data in different ways.

Understanding Range and Variation

Statistics is not only about finding averages. It is also important to understand how values differ from one another.

The range is the difference between the highest and lowest values.

For example:

The highest value is 30 and the lowest is 10.

So:

The range is 20.
